Vertical gravity is an automatic takeup method where the takeup pulley witn attached mass is mounted beneath the conveyor. The tension in the belt is generated by gravity.

TU-Drawing-VerticalGravity

Pros

This is the most inexpensive method of achieving an automatic takeup. Gravity is free, available all the time and is fast If the conveyor rises high enough above the ground at any location to allow enough vertical travel to accommodate belt stretch, this is typically the most preferred takeup option.

Cons

Most conveyors do not rise above the ground more than 10 m at the discharge pulley. If using a fabric belt, this limits the conveyor length to about 500  lengths. If using a steel cord belt the conveyor lengths can get up to about 2500m lengths.
