A "fixed" ("manual " in previous program versions) takeup describes a pulley which can be moved manually when the conveyor is NOT running. It typically consists of pulley which can slide on stationary guides with the help of two screws. The tension is created by the two screws which are tightened and periodically adjusted manually. If higher tension are needed, a hydraulic cylinder is sometimes used.

Pros

A "Fixed" takeup is very simple and inexpensive, but are used only in the case of short conveyors of up to 60 m length and light duty.

Cons

The main problem is the takeup requires a vigilant and careful operator to observe when takup adjustments are required as the belt stretches. Also, precise tension adjustment are not possible so larger safety factors on pulleys etc. are needed.
