<< Click to Display Table of Contents >> Pulley Design Approach |
The Pulley tab opens a page of pulley loads, description, sub-components and dimensions. While the loading is primarily input from the conveyor design, default dimensional values and selected components can be overridden.
Three design approaches are available in the Standard and Pro versions of the program; two are available in the Lite version. The design selection is chosen using the button box on the top of the pulley tab.
•The Basic Input approach displays only the typical input data necessary for developing a pulley design -- T1 force and angle, T2 force and angle, estimated pulley weight, resultant force and angle, pulley diameter, lagging, overhung loads, backstop.
The data displayed and printed for Basic Input contains much of the data needed for a more detailed design of the pulleys. If the user does not intend to design the pulleys, this may be all the data required at this time.
To speed up the calculation process, the pulley design can be limited to Basic Input data only until the final stage when the pulleys designs are being evaluated.
•The Standard Design approach uses generic pulley components to assist in the selection of pulley and bearing sizes. Shaft deflection, shaft safety factor, and bearing life are estimated.
•The Advanced Design approach uses specific hubs, shafts and bearings contained in a database to assist in the selection of pulley components and design. Shaft deflection, shaft safety factor, hub safety factor, turndown safety factor and bearing life are estimated.
In the Standard design approach, either Auto or User mode is selected at the top of the screen. This affects the extent to which the program automatically selects the pulley specifications.
In all design approaches, the method for inputting pulley T1, T2 and wrap angles is determined by the profile mode.
This selection can be made on the Home > Profile Tab.
•In the "Advanced" profile mode, the program will attempt to determine the T1, T2 and wrap angles for the pulleys. If the pulley has a belt flight segment before and after, these angles can be calculated (and the value will be displayed in black). Otherwise the program will estimate/guess the angle value (displayed in non-bold blue). For angles that cannot be calculated from belt segments, the user can override the estimated value (input value displayed in bold blue lettering).
•In the "Standard" profile mode, the user inputs the pulley angles (value displayed in bold blue lettering).
