Design Recommendations

The following recommendations are made in BELT CONVEYORS FOR BULK MATERIALS, 7th Edition, Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association, 2014.

Belt Width

The belt width should be at least 2 times the slot opening at the rear of the hopper or 2 times the diameter of the outlet of the feed hopper.

Base the design on the assumption that there will be skirtboards the entire length of the feeder, and use the standard edge distance and surcharge angle of the material.

Select the belt width and trough angle for feeders based on the standard edge distance and surcharge angle of the material within the recommended belt speed range.

Loading Direction

Loading should be in line with the direction of the feeder travel.

Feeder Outlet

Standard opening width is 2/3 the belt width.

The height of the feeder outlet should be adjustable ±25% to allow for balancing the system.
